Six Communications Tools to Foster Connection

The health and wellness industry is full of people with big hearts. In my experience working in healthcare, I’ve seen firsthand how passionate, caring, compassionate, and straight-up genius they are. Because this industry is often spending most of their time in delivering care, doing research, or managing their teams and day-to-day functions, their incredible stories don’t always get told.

Stories which have the power to inspire new ideas, spark collaborations, and create a sense of connection with their audience. This is exactly what the health and wellness industry could use.

Here are six communication and connection tools to tap into this year:

1. Social Media Strategy

The first step to connecting with your audience is to narrow down who they actually are. A social media strategy provides the opportunity to explore who your audience is, what your goals are, and create a roadmap to get there. Whether you’re launching a new digital product or service, sharing research results, recruiting, or looking to expand your reach, a social media strategy can help you achieve your goals and measure results.

2. Social Media Content

Content is where your stories can come to life. How you communicate on social media is just as important as the message you’re sending out. This year, tap into owned photos and photography (even if they’re taken on phones), creative design, interactive stories (think polls, question boxes, and sliders), fun and engaging reels, and do not underestimate the power of live video. Not only are live videos the epitome of transparency, they automatically get bumped up before any other content on the feed. Take advantage!

3. Leadership Social Media

Thought leadership is one of the best ways to communicate your organization’s strategy and key messages. Your leaders can put a face to your organization and create a more intimate and trusted connection. By empowering your leaders’ to share their thoughts with your audience, you’ll inspire new and creative ways of tackling some of the health and wellness industry’s biggest struggles.

4. Public Relations

While they’re the OG communication tool, PR shouldn’t be overlooked for social media. People still read articles, listen to podcasts, watch the news, and listen to the radio. Public relations is still more authentic than advertising and marketing though the three are not mutually exclusive. PR plays an important part in shaping your image. Keep writing those press releases, pitching media outlets, and finding speaking opportunities. By sharing your unique story, you’ll reach new audiences and new heights.

5. Writing

The right words in the right places at the right time… magic. Whether it’s writing creative social media captions, articles, blogs, website copy, event promotion copy, video or podcast scripts, and press releases — take an extra moment to infuse your prose with the emotions you want the reader to feel. This is how you create connection.

6. Podcasting

Podcasts are continue to rise in popularity year after year thanks to the variety of apps and places to access them. They’re a great way to create a personal and more intimate relationship with your audience. I mean — you’re literally in their ears! Why not deep dive into your topics of expertise or bring in some guests for a round table discussion on timely issues? The podcast scene is exploding and there’s certainly space for your voice.

Curious about how any of these tools could help you communicate and expand in 2022? Imagine for a second how a podcast or a social media strategy would look like for you and your business or organization and where it could take you.
